Slovenia by iPhone Summer, 2025

Recently, I was in market for a new phone and a new underwater camera. In the end I decided to buy an iPhone 16 pro and scuba housing. I don’t dive enough to need a camera strictly for diving and the housing I bought is rated to 130 feet. I started my photo habit on a canon slr, switched the digital with my next body, and a couple in between and now use a 5d mark iv and I did not expect much from my new phone’s camera. I shocked by how good it is. The following were all taken and edited on my phone, as is this blog posting. I will still carry/lug my camera bag and a literal ton of glass for long exposure and lens options but it’s getting close…

Found randomly in an alcove of a church in Ljubljana.
Taken with the scuba housing on while canyoning
Ok technically Italy but just barely, Cormons, Italy
Old Town, Ljubljana
Low light/night mode in a cave
Wide angle, some distortion on the edges, which is the same I get from my fisheye lens
1x lens of a church
Very zoomed in of this dragon
Triglav zoomed in on 10x and cropped a bit after, still good resolution!

  1. Hi Mark!

Lovely shots. Recently reconnected with Fred Wilson amid all the chaos and wondering how friends in State are doing. Long time! Hope you’re relatively untouched by the madness. You’re in Slovenia?

Kelly and I are on home leave now, about to head to our next post in Seoul. She’ll be ag counselor there. Just spent four years in Thailand and guessing based on your photo blog that we may have had some SE Asia overlap. Been meaning to reach out to you and Fred for years to see where you’re all at.

Just took my 16-year-old on a prospective student tour at Mizzou. Dining halls—I built those up too much in my head. But the rec center is so damn nice now.

Right now sitting on a deck, sipping coffee in view of Table Rock Lake.

    Hope you’re well! Joe

    1. Hi Joe,

Thanks! Great to hear from you! I wish I had known you were in SE Asia! I’ve been to Bangkok a couple times in the last couple years. We’re in Kazakhstan and will stay for another 3 years. We were R&R-ing in Slovenia. Congrats to the better half! That’s a big job in South Korea.

You can always catch me at my first and last name at gmail.

      Best,

      mark
